Provide support for backup and restore of a single project
Back in the day, in Project Server, there used to be a feature that allowed Project Managers to backup their Projects at a stable state, make as many changes as they want, and in case things go south, restore the project from its previously backed up state.
Can we please have that functionality for Project Online? This is Microsoft cloud after all. How difficult can a backup be?
I support the question. The ability to recover deleted data is required.

This is a key requirement in Project Online that is missing. I support the request for Microsoft to urgently add this to their future requirements for Project Online.
I agree with the below comment, this is a Must Have to be able to provide our Project Managers with the level of basic functionality they need and deserve.

Backup/Restore in Project Online is a Must Have requirement. Need it ASAP
Backup and restorage are very crucial feature which are unfortunaely missing from Project Online and therefore restricting the users from accessing their past work.
Would appreciate if Microsoft can provide this feature to its users.

We have exepted that a backup and restore feature exists a this should be state of the art nowadays. Thus we urgently request to add such backup and restore for individual project plans and on site level.

Was disappointed when this feature disappeared with the cloud version, would be great to have it reinstated

Yes please - this is a critical feature lacking in online
Just a comment for anyone that has this issue top of mind. Something close to this functionality might be available as part of the new feature that allows site collection URL changes (rolling out now). It would potentially enable MSFT to do "out of place" restores of a PWA site collection (restoring a site collection without overriding the current one). It has not yet been confirmed by Microsoft, but technically it sounds possible to me.
If this works, the following scenario would help to retrieve individual projects:
1. Users mistakenly deletes a project from "PWA" site collection
2. Admin rename the URL for "/PWA" to "/PWANewName"
3. Admin contacts MSFT and arrange a restore of "/PWA" (MSFT SLA: 48 restore based on backups every 12 hours, retained for 2 weeks)
4. Admin exports the deleted project form the restored site collection and imports it to "PWANewName"
5. Admin can delete the restored site collection and potentially change the name back again

A major pharma customer of Project Online is requesting this capability. Please float to the top of the list.

It is a "positive" requirement.

Backup and restore single projects and workspace is vital to any organisation that invest time and money in a PPM solution.
As stefan said going back against deprecation of OnPrem feature for Project online should not be discussed. Meanwhile workaround solution such as MPP file export or worse XML export are the only solution, in that case, no garantee of result ,no garanty of loss no version management or simulation is possible without a very expensive third party solution.

It is a MUST.
It should not be discussed or questioned.
But as always MS is leaving space that Partners can Step-In.
We badly need that feature !
Please bring back this essential functionality

The choice of removing this feature in the online version is very weird. Currently if a plan gets corrupted or there is a user mistake when publishing you have no way to revert back
