"Calculate Resource Utilization from", should include the option: "Resource Engagement until" [date]
Project Pro > Project information > ‘Calculate Resource Utilization from’, should include the option ‘Resource Engagement until’ [date].
When Microsoft introduced the ‘Resource Engagement’ feature it replaced the ‘Resource Planning’ feature before it.
The idea with ‘Resource Plans’ was that high-level plans could be set in motion using this feature, then they would be potentially followed up with detailed project plans (e.g., in the manner of a ‘Rolling Wave’ approach). As such, one could set the ‘Calculate Resource Utilization from’ to ‘Project Plan until’ [date], so that the source of the projects’ resource needs could capture and report on the upfront resource requirement details with the project file, and allow the ‘Resource Plan’ (maintained in PWA) to be the source of the back-end/ down-stream/ high-level (e.g., generic) resource requirements.
Now, in replacing the Resource Plan with the ‘Resource Engagement’ feature in version 2016, the paradigm has been reversed, yet the options available in ‘Calculate Resource Utilization from’ (found in Project Pro > Project Information) did not change. As such, ‘Resource Engagement until’ [date], is currently not supported but it should be!
Resource Engagements at the moment are an ‘all-or-nothing’ proposition unfortunately! Yet, similar to the rolling-wave approach, it would serve the user community well to have and use the a ‘Resource Engagement until’ [date]. In this manner, resource requests could be made for upfront work/ activities/ tasks, and allow the project plan’s high-level (generic) OR alternatively have the ‘Resource Engagements’ entirely highlight the down stream/ back-end resource requirements (the latter currently exists). The former (‘Resource Engagement until’ [date]) is what is missing, and I would highly recommend I strongly believe that this will help users with the adoption and application of the ‘Resource Engagement’ feature.
