  1. Add a Baseline Comment Field

    New project baselines are typically required due to scope, priority, or resource changes. We could track these changes more easily if each baseline included a comment field.

      • Introduce Timephasing of Risks

        Our customers often ask for Risk reporting over time. They would like to see the level of risk associated with a project as time progresses.

        Currently Risk are stored as point in time and we lose all historical values associated with costs and scoring.

        It would be helpful to have time phasing of risk within the product (Project Server/Project Online)

        • Expose Project Task Notes in Odata queries

          Add the ability to report on the entire Project Task Notes with ODATA. Currently this field is not available for reporting. There are some workarounds, but they cut the data off at 255 characters.

          Many people put their comments into this field, however, we cannot report out on the comments. If we cannot share the comments via reporting or other OData means, then people begin to use other systems to track comments vs. using the built in features of MS Project.

          People have to open another screen (MS Project) to see the comments.

          • A Resource Manager should be able to create a Resource Engagement in PWA as Proposed

            Currently, someone such as a Resource Manager using the PWA Resource Center interface to establish and book resources via the resource engagement feature can do so but unfortunately it limits them setting up as committed only ('Proposed' resource engagement is not possible via PWA). A resource manager may wish to soft book the resource in question and unfortunately only way to do so is via Project Professional. As you know, using Project Professional adds to the complexity of accomplishing this operation.

            • Timephased Resource Information

              While effort and base capacity is timephased, the associated resource information such as Team Name, Resource Department, RBS, and Timesheet Manager are not. This means that as staff move about the organization, our reports will only ever show their effort as associated with their current state of employment. This gap causes concern and inaccurate historical reports.

              Question from Leadership: "How many QA hours did that last ERP Program (of multiple projects) need?" or "How has the balance of operational effort, support effort, and project effort changed over the last three years?"

              Answer today: We're not sure. Two of them are…

              • Allow Resource Table to be shared between instances of Project Online

                Allow the Resource Table to be shared between Instance of Project Online so that it can be maintained in on instance and shared with all the others.

                • Generic Resource Assignments causes a duration or work of 0

                  Resources can be flagged as a generic resource and do have an max. availability of 0 %. Normally, generic resources behave like normal resources - you assign them to a task and depending on the task type the work/duration/units are calculated, even if there's are max. units of 0 %, it will calculate based on 100 %. Since a couple of months, this is not the case anymore, the client calculates based on 0% and as a consequence the duration of every task goes to 0 (=milestone). This is a huge pain. Please fix it. Thanks.

                    • For Resource Engagement proposals, could we have email notifications on approval/rejection/response?

                      It is great that you created a way for Resource managers to receive notifications when they have outstanding requests.

                      Now, we need a way to enable Project Manager/Status Managers (i.e. the person proposing the engagement) to be notified via alert/email when a proposal has been responded to.

                      • Tracking Method and the Mark Complete Button on the Tasks Page

                        Consider a customer who has configured Single Entry Mode and enabled Protected Actuals (Task Settings and Display > Only allow task updates via Tasks and Timesheets). This customer is using a forced Tracking Method of Hours of Work Done per Period.

                        Team Members at this customer have been trained to not use the Mark Complete button on the Tasks page. Despite their previous training, this customer's Team Members expect this button to simply zero out the Remaining Work for a task, thereby marking it complete in the current period.

                        Instead, this button sets % Work Complete for the assignment to…

                        • Automate RBS structure from AD or other systems

                          RBS maintenance has to be done manually today, however, we have other systems that contain the Organizational hierarchy like SharePoint, AD, Oracle Applications, etc. This leads to data redundancy and inconsistency. Would be great to have an ability to synchronize and be a consumer of other services to gather this information.

                          • Provide the ability to filter on custom fields when accessing projects via CSOM

                            It is not possible to obtain a list of projects via CSOM and filter them beforehand using custom fields. This is quite hindering when working with a large list of projects.

                            • Add the ability map additional attributes from AD to Resources

                              Many companies have attributes in Active Directory that can be use to sort, filter and group users. It would be helpful if the sync process provided the ability to map those attributes to custom fields in Project Online. so that they would show up in the Resource table

                              • Allow Customizing Context Menus like in Excel

                                In most Office Desktop App you can customize the context menu. Please add this valuable feature also to Microsoft Project Desktop app:

                                • Expand the reporting database (ODATA)

                                  Expand the reporting database to include key schedule data (e.g. predecessors, etc). These data are not readily accessible with PWA and could be used to create user-authored schedule audits.
                                  Examples:
                                  -tracking the number of cross-project predecessors in an indirect measure of organizational collaboration, would help to market the value of PWA
                                  -identifying schedules with complex predecessors (e.g. SF) and lead/lag is useful to building more robust project schedules

                                  • Make Menu Navigation More Intuitive

                                    When working with a project server-Sharepoint combination, users do not (and do not need to) understand the technical difference between those two components. But due to the changing menu items (depending on the fact if the user is currently navigating through the Sharepoint part or the project server part), users are irritated and get lost. It is not intuitive to switch between those two components. There should be a menu navigation including both components (as most users do not know anyway if they find the information they are looking for in the Project Server part or in the SharePoint part).…

                                    • Project Manager should not be able to overwrite Resource Engagement committed values

                                      Now Project Manager can modify Proposed numbers of Accepted Engagement in Project Pro. This is good. But when modified engagement is submitted in Project Pro for Resource Manager, original confirmed values disappear. Confirmed numbers disappear in Project Pro like if Resource manager hadn't ever approved the engagement. In PWA Resource manager's approved numbers are overwritten by new proposed numbers. This should not happen. Confirmed engagement information should not be overwritten by modified proposed numbers.

                                      While creating new engagements, PM may accidentally change numbers for approved engagement, when he then submits with Submit all command, we loose confirmed values!

                                      • Prevent deletion of tasks with baselines

                                        Users often forget to clear the baseline before deleting a task. Show an alert message if a user tries to delete a baselined task.
