Allow the timescale to be modified for Timeline as it can be for GANTT Chart
Add the ability to select which 'Unit' to be utilized for the timescale in the Timeline, similar to what's currently available for the GANTT Chart.
The GANTT Chart currently has the following selections: Years, Half Years, Quarters, Months, Thirds of Months, Weeks, Days, Hours and Minutes.
I would expect the setting to be applied to the entire Timeline view, regardless of the number of Timeline bars that may be included. (one setting that would apply to all timeline bars).

Holding CTRL and scrolling to change the zoom is not the solution to this.
As a user, I want the timeline to span the width of my monitor, and without changing the overall width of the timeline, I want to be able to change where the "tick" marks are displayed.
To use an Excel Graph example: it's the equivalent of changing how often the x-axis labels are displayed (display label every 1 month). Changing x-axis labels from displaying every 7 numbers to displaying every 30 numbers doesn't modify the width of the graph. It just adjusts how often those labels are displayed across the x-axis. Similarly, changing the timescale from Weeks to Months, shouldn't adjust the overall width of the timeline; it should just change how often the timescale labels appear from left to right.
Additionally, we should have the option to format the timescale labels. We can modify the date format for tasks & milestones WITHIN the timeline; but as of today, we can not modify the date format for the TIMESCALE labels. If I pick a timescale label frequency of "monthly," I should also have the ability to format how the month labels look (e.g., Jan, January, January 2021, Jan 2021, J, 01, 1, 01-2021, 1-2021, 1/21, 01/2021, etc.). If I chose a timescale label frequency of "quarterly", I should also have the ability to format how the quarter labels look (e.g., Q3, Quarter 3, Qtr. 3, 2021-Q3, Q3-2021, etc.).

You can do the same thing by opening the Timeline view to begin with.
Then click on any area around the timeline.
Under view you can select Show entire project or you can use Ctrl+Mouse cursor to zoom in zoom out. This will fix the dates in the timeline automatically.Hope this helps.

I face the same difficulties to modify the timescale in Timeline as I modify timescale in Gantt Chart (such as change to Month 1, Month 2, so on) for presentation. It would be more useful if Microsoft enhance timescale for Timeline the same as in the Gantt Chart.

I have to do a lot of workarounds to present a plan with a relative dates(week1, week2,...) because it's necessary for negotiation of new contracts but the lack of this capability makes project difficult to use. What I need it's a timescale for the timeline equals to the gantt view, in this way I can show weeks or month instead the specific day (i.e. 09-09-2019).
