Add PeoplePicker fields as custom field type
A new field type in the manner of the SharePoint People/Group column type would help to gather information for reports and workflows. The best would be if you could select either from the entrerprise resource pool, selected categories/groups or from the SharePoint user pool or groups.
A point on top would be, if user selection could also be used in the security model.

Excellent! Examples for us: Executive Stakeholder Name, Project Sponsor Name... couple of more real examples that help with reporting, Power BI Dashboards, (data quality/consistency), etc.
Any update on this?

Agreed, we previously managed a project list with SharePoint and used the people picker column to identify project stakeholder names from AD. But while we are setting up Project Online to replace the SharePoint list for the same purpose, the feature is surprisingly not there.
There is a workaround posted on:
...However, it only allows for one single name to appear on the Project Center. Note that there are several comments on this workaround page asking the developer to add the multiple people option, but that's unlikely as this is now a requested feature in the Project Online User Voice.
There is definitely interest for this feature to be OOTB in Project Online based on the comment thread for the workaround.

Status on this? The work around is only for Project Level on the PDP, I need a people picker in the task level. Hard to believe this isnt moving, the demand is there for it.
Here a link for a work around, hope it helps.

Bummer this hasn't really moved.

Any update on this?
Seems crazy that Project Server doesn't have a Person/Group custom field type; we're so used to using these in workflow with SharePoint to customize notifications, automate approvals, create tasks, etc.

Hi Microsoft Project Team,
We wonder what the status is for this improvement?
This would be useful for the Contact field in MSProject. Manually typing a contact's name is prone to error and subsequently grouping, sorting, filtering errors.
People picker to pick from the Project Team Members (similar to the task assignment).

simple picker in the O365 directory just the seach on the name would be great step forward

Agree - this is a standard request from my customers.
