    Hi everyone -

The new Project is here …

Project offers a redesigned user experience that is simple and intuitive. Teams can quickly add new members and set up tasks, and then easily switch between grids, boards, or timeline (Gantt) charts to track progress. And because Project is part of the Microsoft 365 family, project teams can save time and do more with built-in connections to familiar apps like Microsoft Teams and Office.

A bit different than exactly what is requested, however, Project for the web adopts the Microsoft Power Platform, so there are opportunities enabled by PowerApps, Flow and CDS. We are also highlighting the “modern” look and feel that has been requested.

Thanks all! Looking forward to seeing more of your feedback.

So this seems to say "We're abandoning all efforts to ever bring the "modern SharePoint experience" to sites in PWA. Instead, look at this new thing we're doing! Look at this post that's almost a year old and notice how little detail we offer on what exactly it means for anyone - but it's shiny, so get excited!"

Granted, I am excited and looking forward to it, big time... but for real, please don't pretend you're actually working on what this user-voice post suggested.

@amin - can you please elaborate on what you mean by modern? I'm thinking the original poster is after things like modern sharepoint pages... but the article you post says nothing about modern pages.

Really waiting for the ability to filter in the OData url date/time based on "now" or "current". This will help speed up all future looking queries.

Plus bulk edit... like using a project center view but in edit mode so you can edit the displayed fields. It stinks having to do this individually via PDPs or by setting up a CSV and running powershell. Neither one is very user friendly and a reason we're having trouble democratizing the use of Project Online for smaller projects led by operational staff instead of project managers.

I wonder what this actually would mean in practice. I've watched PMs keep a project file open for days and weeks because they were afraid their changes would be visible everywhere before they were finalized or approved. Now that they know that won't happen until they publish, they're more apt to actually close the file which helps with the auto-publishing of timesheet entries & reports that poll that information. Getting rid of publish? I just don't understand what that helps or how we'd need to change our business practices to adapt.

This is starting to be a thing for us, too. This also goes forwards & backwards for capacity purposes, so it really needs to be timephased data of what role they were in (or will be in) on a given day (or time period). As people move about the organization, we lose the ability to report historically on the capacity / availability we had since there's no tracking of what they "were" or "will be", just what they "are".

Now that we're piloting this... I'm finding that I'd really like to be able to point to buckets of a plan from tasks in project... not just a task to a plan, but a task to a bucket. There would be incredible number of plans needed to fulfill even a few concurrent projects... a number such that a team member trying to navigate which plan they should be looking at would be nuts. But if a bucket were roughly equivalent to a deliverable or package of work, that about fits the breakdown I'm finding appropriate.

Understanding a bit more of how you intended the model, I do like that - especially that I could link to different plans for different tasks. I think I'd like to see a more holistic thing, though, like a Team per-project, and of course then the team could have more than one plan where appropriate linking to whatever would be the "summary" task in the project.

Roll-up of information like % complete & assignees from the plan would be nice... but that would mean that would have to exist first in planner (beyond not started, in progress, and complete).

Where I was going on the combo of data was more along the lines of avoiding the organization considering skipping using a project when "just a plan" could do. If we have some projects in project online, and some in planner, where's the single source of truth for what's our portfolio and how they relate to each other (dependency, strategy, etc). Sounds like the way to handle that would be to have a project with a single task that points to a plan... but that gets to really needing a better mechanism to cause a team into being because a project exists.

+1 on John's comment - that. Exactly that. (Except I really don't want to have to use powerbi to do the combination of data... I'd like it integrated with project online so I can choose to use powerbi if I want, but moreover I want the integration to be about the common resource pool, capacity, assignments, availability, etc, along with the integrated reports of "what we've accomplished"

This... but the ability to take actions on them, too. By process we only track time to projects, but some staff don't work on projects... but their timesheets still say they're due. Outside of changing their custom availability week by week, there's no way to make the other timesheets fall off of reports. I'd really like to be able to submit / recall / approve / etc... timesheets programmatically!

fyi - this was recognized as a gap by Microsoft, but they decided not to do anything about it. Here was the response to my support case on 05 June 2017 :

    Symptom

The Project ID field, which is associated to a given enterprise project type (EPT), gets populated with a value upon creating a project. This value can be seen in places like the Project Center and the Tasks view. However, though you can place this field into timesheet views, it is always blank.

    Resolution

Unfortunately, the full work to integrate this field into the timesheet views was not completed. A this time, the engineering team will not be taking on this work to finish this work; I also do not have a workaround available to you.

Let me know if you have further questions.

    Thanks,

    Adrian Jenkins
